Sandip Basak, MD, FACR is a board certified diagnostic radiologist specializing in Neuroradiology.  In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Basak is Chairman of the Board of University Radiology Group with general management oversight of clinical, operational, and strategic activities of the organization.

Dr. Basak received his undergraduate and medical degrees from New York University.  He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. He then went onto Diagnostic Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia where he was chief resident from 1999-2000.  After completing a two year fellowship in Neuroradiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, he received a Certificate of Added Qualification in Neuroradiology in 2003.  + More

Dr. Basak has been a subspecialty radiologist with University Radiology Group since 2003 during which time he has held various positions of management within the organization including Board of Director’s trustee since 2007, Executive Committee member since 2013, Co-Chairman of University Radiology’s Clinical Operations Committee from 2016-2019, and President of University Radiology from 2019-2022.

Dr. Basak has also been active in academics during his time at University Radiology.  He maintains an academic appointment as Clinical Professor at RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical (RWJMS).  He was Associate Program Director for the RUTGERS RWJMS Diagnostic Radiology Residency from 2009 -2011 and the Program Director from 2011-2015.  <

Tejas Shinde, M.D.

President

Tejas Shinde, MD is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist specializing in Musculoskeletal Imaging and MRI. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Shinde serves as President of University Radiology Group (URG), where he provides executive leadership and strategic oversight for the organization’s clinical, operational, and physician alignment initiatives. He also serves on the URG Board of Directors and Executive Committee and previously held the roles of Secretary and Treasurer of the Group.

Dr. Shinde received his undergraduate degree in Biology and Economics, summa cum laude, from New York University and earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his Internship in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, followed by his Residency in Diagnostic Radiology at NYU Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a Fellowship in MRI with concentrations in Musculoskeletal, Body, and Neuroradiology at Thomas Jefferson University.  + More

Prior to joining University Radiology Group, Dr. Shinde served as Director of MRI and Musculoskeletal Imaging at Monmouth Medical Imaging/RWJBarnabas Health, where he led the growth and development of advanced MRI and musculoskeletal imaging services. He also served as Chairman of the Department of Radiology at Monmouth Medical Center and as President of Monmouth Medical Imaging, providing leadership during a period of departmental transition and strategic operational growth. Dr. Shinde additionally serves as Medical Director and Partner at Shrewsbury Diagnostic Imaging.

Dr. Shinde is actively involved in hospital and academic leadership. He currently serves on several University Radiology Group leadership committees and on the AOA Honors Selection Committee for Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

As a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Shinde educates and mentors Radiology residents and medical students rotating through Diagnostic Radiology. He serves on multiple institutional committees, including the Clinical Competency Committees for Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology at Rutgers RWJMS and Monmouth Medical Center.

He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and abstracts in the fields of MRI, musculoskeletal imaging, quality improvement, and radiology operations. His work has been presented at national meetings including the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American College of Radiology (ACR), and the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS).  <

Chief Executive Officer

Randy Gerstl was named Chief Executive Officer for University Radiology Group in July, 2022.    Randy has over 30 years of experience in Healthcare Business and Finance leadership.  He previously held the position of Chief Financial Officer for URG, and was the Chief Administrative Officer for Associated Radiologists, where he was responsible for all aspects of finance, operations and marketing.  Randy is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New Jersey. 

Randy brings to URG a wealth of experience managing technical and administrative teams for all aspects in the radiology arena.  He has a deep understanding of the regional healthcare market, and has been a key member behind many mergers and acquisitions in radiology.  + More

Mr. Gerstl is an active member of URG’s Board of Managers, Insurance Committee, Pension Committee, Venture Committee, Realty Committee, Compliance Committee and Diversity Committee.

In addition to his CPA, Mr. Gerstl received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Radiology Business Managers Association.  As a Past President of the RBMA’s New Jersey Chapter, he has presented numerous talks on relative issues to the radiology community.  <

Robert P. Braun

Robert P. Braun, MA, M.Ed., RN, OCN, RT (R) (T) is the Chief Operating Officer for University Radiology.  Mr. Braun joined the Group in 2020 with a focus on the management and oversight of our expanding outpatient imaging offices.  His scope of responsibilities include: imaging office operations, facilities/infrastructure management, imaging equipment management, service engineering and nursing.  His responsibilities include planning; directing, administering and coordinating URG’s imaging office operations.   + More

Mr. Braun joins URG with a rich background and an impressive career path.  His roots are in radiology and oncology, where he worked clinically as a technologist, nurse and therapist.  He studied Healthcare Administration and Nursing at Manhattan College and Felician University, earning duel undergraduate degrees and his R.N and RT., early in his career.  He earned master’s degrees in Education/Management and Interdisciplinary Studies from Penn State University and California State University, respectively.  In addition to his executive career, Mr. Braun has taught extensively on the collegiate level including serving as an adjunct professor for the Graduate Division at Rutgers University within their Radiologist Assistant master’s program.  He has been a frequent guest speaker at many professional association events in addition to writing over 30 peer reviewed publications.

Mr. Braun has held progressively more responsible executive positions over twenty years with Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, CentraState Healthcare System, RWJ Barnabas Health System and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  His most recent position prior to URG was with Regional Cancer Care Associates, where he served as Corporate V.P. of Operations/Integration/Strategy.  <

Dr. Alberto Goldszal is an engineer and scientist with more than 25 years of experience in data science, artificial intelligence, medical imaging systems and medical informatics. By leveraging his expertise in technology and understanding of business operations, Dr Goldszal has helped University Radiology achieve their strategic objectives, drive innovation and growth, and stay ahead of the competition.

Dr. Goldszal is widely recognized for his work in the field of artificial intelligence and digital imaging processing applied to healthcare. He has received several prestigious awards for his contributions to the field, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Shock Award for pioneering research on the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and the Moore Fellowship Award in the Management of Technology at the University of Pennsylvania.  + More

Dr. Goldszal has written several peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and abstracts. Past affiliations include IEEE, AAAS, RSNA and SIIM. Training credentials include a PhD in Engineering (Digital Image Processing) and a Management of Technology degree jointly awarded by Penn Engineering and the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Goldszal also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Radiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. Dr. Goldszal's passion for advancing healthcare through technology, combined with his expertise in data science, artificial intelligence and medical imaging, continues to drive his work in the field of healthcare informatics. Past faculty appointments include passages at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine (2000-2007), Johns Hopkins University (1995-1997), and at Drexel University (1989-1994).  <

Chief Human Resources Officer & Director of Marketing

Laurie Verderami, PHR, SHRM-CP is the Chief Human Resources Officer and Head of Marketing for University Radiology Group.  Ms. Verderami joined the Group in 2013, with a focus to build an effective human resource function across the practice by aligning human resource activities with business goals. Ms. Verderami directs all Human Resources functions with a general focus in talent acquisition, management development, compensation and benefits, performance management and employee relations.

In 2019, Ms. Verderami also became the Director of Marketing and Sales for University Radiology.  In this capacity, Laurie is responsible for the overall promotion, communication and advertising efforts to drive brand awareness and physician referrals for all modalities.   + More

Prior to joining University Radiology, Ms. Verderami held positions of increasing responsibility in the Human Resources field.  She spent twelve years as the Global Director of Human Resources with CoreLab Partners, a CRO focused on image interpretation for pharmaceutical oncologic clinical trials.  In this role, she developed and directed the HR function across 5 offices in 3 continents.

Ms. Verderami received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Delaware.  She holds a certificate in Advanced Human Resource studies from Cornell University, a certificate in Employee Relations from Rutgers University and a certificate in Healthcare Compliance from Seton Hall School of Law.  Additionally, Ms. Verderami is certified by HCRI as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and by the Society of Human Resource Management as a SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).  <

General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer

Franca Maiorano-Hobbs, Esq., General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for University Radiology Group, P.C., graduated from St. John’s University in Queens, New York, summa cum laude, and from St. John’s School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in the states of New Jersey and New York.

After graduating from law school, Mrs. Maiorano-Hobbs entered private practice specializing in civil litigation with a subspecialty in medical malpractice litigation. Mrs. Maiorano-Hobbs became the General Counsel for University Radiology in 2006, and since that time has negotiated the Group’s hospital contracts, radiology service and employment contracts, and professional and general liability insurance renewals. She has responsibility for the closing of all financing transactions and for compliance with Department of Health licensing matters. Mrs. Maiorano-Hobbs has been instrumental in managing and accomplishing the Group’s many mergers and acquisitions and serves as an active advisor to the Senior Leadership Team on a wide range of corporate issues.

Frank Reheis joins University Radiology Group as Chief Financial Officer, bringing a wealth of experience in healthcare leadership, with a focus on radiology practices. He holds a BA in Accounting and Business Administration from Muhlenberg College. Frank’s expertise encompasses financial reporting and compliance, strategic financial planning, analysis, financial modeling, and cultivating team development.

Before his current role, Frank held several leadership positions including Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Director of Operations at prominent radiology groups. There, he was responsible for all aspects of executive leadership, financial operations, and marketing.   Frank was pivotal in driving growth initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and navigating complex financial landscapes, significantly contributing to organizational success.
